Why we love a good house for hosting
When we entertain in our homes over the years, it really starts to highlight for us, what we love about our houses. Possibly things we don’t like also, but throughout the years, we make adjustments, we renovate things, we really turn our entertaining spaces, into spaces we love. Where people gather, shows which room you are most comfortable in, what you renovated first, shows where your focus is. How you set the mood, both lighting and seating, shows how you want people to feel in your home. Impressed? Comfortable? Ready to eat some grub? Your style of entertaining in your home, is unique to you, designed by you, to promote connection and relaxation, enjoying your time with those you love.
It’s expensive out here these days. Like, things cost a lot. Going out- is no joke, you are forking out some cash, no way around it. We also happen to live in a day and age where things often feel very overwhelming. There’s a lot coming at you at all times, from all directions. All this is to say, that these days, there is a lot of value in being able to host at your house. You can give and receive undivided attention from the people you have over. You all can relax, and possibly even even eat a dish that breaks down to be somewhat affordable. You can curate a feeling that’s conducive to fun, you can set up games for the kids in the other room, you can play the music you like. It can be like having an evening on your own sweet little planet. Just you and your friends and your family.
So you see what we’re saying; once you’ve put a lot of thought and intention into making your entertaining space, just how you like it, you really start to love that house. No other house has all these qualities you love to live in, and host in and be proud of. You made it so darn nice. The house might have been nothing special to start with; but you picked that tile, ordered it special. You drove three towns over to get the right light fixtures, and agonized over the big farm sink, before deciding on this one you’ve got that you love so much.
That saying “home is where the heart is” is supposed to mean home is where your family is. Sure, sure, family matters. But what about the heart and soul you put into repainting every square inch ? Home is where you put your heart into it, worked to flesh out your vision. You might still be paying that renovation off for a while, but, darn, it sure is perfect. Just how you wanted it.
And home is where the heart is, because, you turned the garden shed into a granny unit so your in laws aren’t quite as heavily in your space all the time, and because you put in a claw foot bathtub that is your actual sanctuary on earth. The point is, that making our houses special to us, creates a value that house never had before. A value that exists only and especially for you. You do fall in love with a house over the years, so go on and make it your very own. It’s worth it to put the work in, it feels good to fall in love.
