Hey, guess what? We're totally pumped about Pride month, but you know what? We celebrate the LGBTQ+ community every single day. So, let's get into it! Before we dive deep into this topic, we gotta say that we can't cover every little detail in this short article. We're still learning ourselves, and we encourage you to do some extra research and keep educating yourself on important stuff, alright?

Okay, let's start with the basics. Ever heard of NAGLREP? It stands for the National Association of Gay and Lesbian Real Estate Professionals. These awesome folks are all about fighting for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community when it comes to housing and discrimination laws. They even have lists of top LGBTQ+ real estate agents. How cool is that?

Now, let's talk about how Pride connects with the real estate industry. In our opinion, NAGLREP plays a massive role in bringing together Pride and the LGBTQ+ community with real estate. Jeff Berger, the founder of NAGLREP, says they're like a bridge between the real estate and LGBT communities. They take great pride in their advocacy work and showing how homeownership can have emotional and financial benefits for LGBTQ+ folks. During Pride Month, they throw some killer events in partnership with other organizations. Think Virtual Pride Parade and Pride Around the Nation. It's a blast!

NAGLREP fights hard for fair housing laws for the LGBTQ+ community.  The Fair Housing Act, back in '68, protects people from discrimination when they're buying or renting a home or getting help with financing. It covers things like race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, and disabilities. Now, here's a historical tidbit for ya: just a year after the Act was passed, the Stonewall riots happened in June '69. It was a game-changer for the gay rights movement. So, Pride Month is all about remembering those riots and the warriors who fought for LGBTQ+ rights.

Pride Month is a time for everyone to show some major love for the LGBTQ+ community, especially in your field of work. It's super important to realize that discrimination is still happening today, and the fight ain't over yet. We all gotta step up, educate ourselves, and kick bigotry and hate to the curb.

Now, why is it so important to understand all of this? Well, when you know what NAGLREP is all about and what Pride Month represents, you can truly appreciate the enormous impact the LGBTQ+ community has had on the world. Over time, they've seen some big wins and some tough losses. It's a rollercoaster ride.

But hey, here's some good news to kick off Pride Month. The Supreme Court recently ruled that the Civil Rights Act of '64, which protects folks from workplace discrimination based on sex, also covers sexual orientation and gender identity. In other words, it's illegal in every state for employers to fire someone just because they're LGBTQ+. That's a major step forward, my friend!

The National Association of Realtors (NAR) totally recognized the significance of this moment for their employees. Vince Malta, NAR's Vice President, was thrilled about it. He said that NAR amended its code of ethics back in 2010 to outlaw discrimination in real estate based on sexual orientation and in 2013 for gender identity. Now, all LGBTQ+ folks can feel safe and secure at work. It's amazing to see NAR speak up about such an important time in history, especially since they're the biggest trade association in America. Way to go!

So however you choose to celebrate this month The Monday Team is right there with you and will be serving up FREE taco's on June 25. Come grab one on your way to SF or hang out with your kids/dogs in the park.
