Great pumpkin patches and Halloween events to celebrate this October in Oakland.
Alright ya’ll, it’s our favorite season, it’s that time, it’s October, TIME TO GET SPOOKY!!
The Bay is such a rad place to celebrate
Halloween, here’s a few great events and locations you don’t want to miss;
- October 19th, at Cedar Rose Park,
the city of Berkeley is hosting a harvest festival for the whole family! 11-4,
come check out the music, face painting and carnival games.
- Half Moon Bay hosts a really fun pumpkin
festival running through October, it’s opening day was October 2nd.
They’ve got beautiful pumpkin patches set in gorgeous scenery on the coast
there, biggest pumpkin contests and most notably Lemos Farms. Lemos Farms has train
rides, a haunted house, pony’s, tractor rides, baby goats and a pumpkin patch.
It’s worth a drive over for a solid day of fall fun.
- If you
love a good haunted house, drive over to Livermore for Frightmare Home Haunt.
It’s free, donations welcome, and they’re suggesting ages ten and up. It’s
running October 25 and 26 from 7 to 11pm and again on Halloween night.
- While in Livermore, head out Mines Rd to the
beautiful JoAnns pumpkin patch. It’s a very classic, no frills farm pumpkin
patch. Livestock to feed, stuff to climb on, hay bale mazes and a tractor ride
through their beautiful property in the hills. The pumpkins are big and orange
and everywhere, it’s a wonderful place to take pictures and eat pumpkin pie and
chili.
- Again, if you dig the scary stuff, you might have
heard of Fear Overload Scream park in Newark. It’s scary, but so fun. It opened
a couple weeks back and runs select nights all through October. If you enjoy
being chased by a masked man with a chainsaw, check the website for which
nights it’s live.
- If you’ve got little kids, the Halloween Jam
at Oaklands Fairyland runs October 19 and 20th as well as the 25-27th.
It’s a lot of festive fun, with no traumatic scary stuff.
- The Alameda County fairgrounds host it’s
annual Pirates of Emerson haunted attraction. They’ve got pirate ships, they’ve
got smoke machines, they’ve got scared actors and a wacky animatronic pig head.
It’s as awesome as it sounds. It runs through November 2nd and you
can find ticket availability on the website.
- Right over in San Jose we’ve got the real live
Winchester Mystery house. Now through Nov 2nd they get wild after
dark hosting an event called unhinged. It’s got scary mazes you might never
find your way out of, it’s got ghosts and goblins, and also delicious cocktails
and treats.
- Over in Vallejo at six flags discovery park
they are rocking Fright Fest. They’re doing scare zones, Halloween themed rides
and entertainment and some delightfully scary folks in costume to chase your
butt around the park. It’s a great way to get in your 10,000 steps.
- Circling back to the Bay, in Alameda you can
get yourself over to the point, on Monarch St you will find Speer Family farms.
This pumpkin patch always has a few very tall, very fun bounce house slides.
They have those air-filled plastic balls they will jam your kid into and roll
them around for 12 bucks. They build a cool area to climb around in out of hay
bales, and often have a food truck if soda and chips ain’t hitting the spot.
- While in Alameda, take a walk around the
Victorian neighborhoods on the East End. People go all out decorating and come
up with some very creative and scary décor.
- Rockridge in Oakland will be having its annual
Halloween parade on Sunday October 27th. They will be having a big
costume contest where you can show off how cute or scary you are, and you could
win a prize.
- While you are over that way, go see the
Piedmont Ave Pumpkin patch. The store is jam packed with fun costumes, scary
decorations and boundless pumpkin selections.
- Driving up to Petaluma you will find dozens of
beautiful farm style pumpkin patches.
- Drive east over to Brentwood and there are
tons of good patches to hit.
Haunted houses abound, spooky events are
plentiful and there’s just so many darn fun options! Makes one wish there were
more weekends in the month of October, so we had more time to play.
Have a blast, be safe, and have a happy
Halloween!!
