A whirlwind season of bad news—so what can we do about it?
Everyone we talk to seems to be outraged, overwhelmed, in despair, or apathetic about the state of our world.
Should we list the reasons why?
But as activist and writer Brittany Packnett Cunningham reminds us:
- Unclench your jaw.
- Stop doomscrolling.
- Write down three actions you'll take tomorrow about any of the injustices happening right now.
- Go to sleep.
Oppression exhausts on purpose. We need rested warriors.
Need ideas on how to take action?
- Here are 20 organizations fighting the Texas abortion ban. Support them.
- Here's how you can support the Afghan community in the Bay Area and beyond, including donating, volunteering, and writing letters.
- Vote in the upcoming California gubernatorial recall election on September 14th.
- Have an ADU, Airbnb, or extra room? Give shelter to Caldor fire evacuees. Here are other ways to help.
We can't do it all, but we can do something—and we can take care of ourselves in the process.
Now a gentle reminder to find some joy during the rest of your holiday weekend.
